Cable Selection

A 9 pin female to 25 pin male serial cable is need for connecting to a Epson TM88v. The correct choice of serial cable is a factor in a successful print. If the print fails and all else is set up below try swapping the cable to another make or brand. A Serial to USB converter is also required, the Connector only has USB ports directly available. Please speak to your K3 Consultant if you need further advice on this.

Baud Speed - hardware setting

To physically set the DIP switches you will need a cross head screwdriver. Turn the TM88v off, unplug for the mains supply then turn the TM88v over to see the base of the printer. Remove the metal cover adjacent to the markings DSW2 and DSW1

Set switches 7 and 8 to the On position on DSW1. All other switches on both banks can be left as is. Replace the metal cover, turn the TM88v back over and restore the power supply. Power on the TM88v.

Baud Speed - software setting

Set the TM88v baud rate to 38400. This needs doing via the hardware dip switches as above. It is advised that the steps below are checked even if the self-test/Firmware Version print out (step 2 below) states the baud speed is already set to 38400, it has been found that the self-test/Firmware Version print out values can be displayed incorrectly.

  1. Power off the TM88v, press and hold the Feed button whilst powering on the TM88V
  2. Release the Feed button once the Firmware Version page has printed
    • This page will show both Baud Rate and DIP Switch settings. This information needs to be checked using the remaining steps here
  3. Press the Feed button for 1 second or more, the Mode Selection page is printed
  4. Press the Feed button 3 times quickly then press and hold the Feed button to show the Customise Value Settings page
  5. Press the Feed button 3 times quickly then press and hold the Feed button to show the Baud Rate page
  6. Check the default and current set values match the port settings i.e. 38400bps
  7. To change the Current Set Value, press the Feed button 5 times (38400bps) quickly then press the Feed button for more then 1 second. The new baud rate will be shown as Saved
  8. Turn off the TM88v then turn back on without pressing or holding the Feed button
